Bosnia and Herzegovina sends rock band Regina to Eurovision

BHRT, the national broadcaster of Bosnia and Herzegovina have just announced their decision to send popular rock Regina to represent the country in the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest with the song Bistra voda.

After a soulful ballad in 2007, an eccentric act in 2008, Bosnia and Herzegovina, known for their diverse and daring entries in the Eurovision Song Contest, are sending rock with Regina to Moscow. The song is called Bistra voda (Clear water) and is composed by Aleksandar Covic. It will be presented on a BHRT live show on 1st March.

The band, already spanning two decades, was created in 1990 by Aco, Bojan and Denis and later joined by lead singer Davor Ebner. Since then, they have released numerous albums and have achieved rock stardom in all ex Yugoslav countries. The band broke up during the civil war in Yugoslavia to reunite in the original lineup in 2006 when they released Sve mogu ja, their latest album to date.

Johnny Logan for İreland

Three times winner of the Eurovision Song Contest in 1980, 1987 and writer of 1992, Johnny Logan may represent Ireland once again for the fourth time in 2009.

In an article that appears in an Irish newspaper today, The Sunday Tribune, it reads that “Logan set to relight the flame for Eurovision.”

After disappointing results for Ireland in recent years, bar the odd exception, the Irish public broadcaster, RTÉ, are set to “be pulling out all the stops to get three-time Eurovision winner Logan (54) to sing at the 2009 show in Moscow.”

The deal

According to the Sunday Tribune, “RTÉ will offer Johnny Logan his own TV show if he represents Ireland… The deal is said to include a lump sum for Logan as well as his own prime time music show. This is similar to a package offered to Brian Kennedy after he rescued Ireland’s Eurovision fortunes in 2006.”

The approach to Logan according to the newspaper source “…came from the highest level in RTÉ. They are just hoping he takes it.”

Logan’s Eurovision wins began in 1980, with “Whats Another Year?”, in 1987 with “Hold Me Now,” and in 1992 composing “Why Me?” sung by Linda Martin in 1992.

Contacted by the Sunday Tribune newspaper, Johnny Logan refused to deny or confirm his involvement with Ireland’s Eurovision entry. RTÉ has made no comment as of yet.

RTÉ are planning for their National Selection show for Friday February 20th, 2009 with a formal announcement before Christmas.

Ireland: Dustin says 'No' to EU treaty

The BBC are reporting that Ireland’s EU treaty ‘No’ campaigners have recruited the country’s most famous turkey to help secure crucial votes in today’s Lisbon Treaty referendum.

Dustin the Turkey who represented Ireland at the 53rd Eurovision Song Contest 2008 in Belgrade, crashed out of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest at the semi-final stage. Now he appears on posters with the slogan: “They didn’t vote for us. Get them back. Vote ‘No’ to Lisbon.”

The glove puppet’s song Irelande Douze Pointe received too few points from Europeans in the Belgrade contest. ‘No’ campaigners say that result last month should be avenged by rejection of the EU’s Lisbon Treaty.

Ireland is the only member state to hold a referendum on the treaty and the country has seen a frenzied poster campaign from both sides.

The turkey joins the already widespread ‘No’ posters that feature three monkeys with the slogan: “The new EU won’t see you, won’t hear you, won’t speak for you.”

Dustin’s name has surfaced a number of times in the campaign, with Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams, who is also advocating a ‘No’ vote, suggesting that the turkey could have done a better job representing Ireland’s national interests in negotiations over the treaty.

Ireland’s Prime Minister Brian Cowen has accused groups opposed to the treaty of spreading misinformation. The two sides are locked in a tight contest, with many voters still undecided on the crucial vote.

Breaking news from the Winner’s Tour! Moments ago, Dima Bilan departed from Dublin to Germany, instead of London, to perform on tonight’s Verstehen Sie Spaß, live from the Rothaus Arena in Freiburg.

Right after the show in Germany, Dima will fly to London by private plane, to appear on stage for the UK Eurovision Winner’s Party in London’s Scala venue.

Dima performs at The Late Late Show

Friday night, Eurovision Song Contest winner Dima Bilan performed on the Late Late Show in Ireland. The show, hosted by 1988 Eurovision Song Contest host Pat Kenny, is the longest running talk show in the world.

The entire show, the last of this television season, had a light flavour of Eurovision related topics. Not only was the show hosted by lso featured the Irish selection for the second ever Eurovision Dance Contest, the programme also featured one of the original Riverdance stars. The dance ensamble became famous worldwide after featuring as interval act at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest.

At the beginning of the show, Dima performed his winning song Believe, together with violin player Edvin Marton.

* Malta’nın değişik oylama tadi var anlaşilan .. 12 puanı Isveç’e verdi.
* 5 ülke Rusya’ya bir gram puan bile vermedi. Hepside Batı Avrupa’dan gelmedi. Bunlar: Izlanda, Ingiltere, Danimarka, Isviçre, Isveç ve San Mariono.
* Ancak 2 ülke Rusya’ya 1 puan verdiler, ilginçtir bunlarda Batı Avrupa’dan: Fransa ve Hollanda
* Hikaye’de Rusya hiç 2 puan bir ülkeden alamadı. Ama Belçika’dan bir 3 puan çıktı neticede.
* Başka yönüylede Rusya’nin 6 adet 12 puanın 5 adedi Eski Sovyet Blok’undan geldi. Son 12 puanı Israil’den aldı ki .. Israil’de en çok yabancı nufus Ruslardan oluşuyor.

* Bu istatistiki bilgiler genel olarak %100 hiç birzaman olamayacaktır elbet, ki kimler hangi ülkelere ne oy veriyorlar.

* Eski Yugoslav ülkelerin hepsi 12 puanını birbirlerine verirken Sadece Makedonya 12 Puanını Arnavutluk’a vermış oldu.

Dima: "I have one dream less"

Shortly before 14:00, Dima Bilan walked in at RTÉ´s headquarter in Dublin, Ireland. In a rush, because the web chat with Irish fans already started. During the web chat, Dima admitted that his Eurovision Song Contest victory also has a disappointing side…

During a short stay in Oslo, Dima performed at shopping mall Oslo City in front of hundreds of excited fan, and gave autographs. During the day, he caught up with Norwegian Eurovision Song Contest participant Maria. He also did several interviews with local media. Early in the morning, it was time to move on to Dublin.During the chat, Dima told that he finished his album for Europe and that he hopes to release it in the UK and Ireland as well. “I promise you that you will like my album, because it came from my soul. The album was made with the people who are now my friends,” Dima said.

“My heroes are people who brought attention to themselves by doing the impossible, by believing in something and breaking the sterotypes,” Dima said to his fans on the chat.”I am already a bit sad, because my Eurovision Song Contest victory is now something of the past. It is really one dream less.”

After the web chat, Dima gave an interview to RTÉ Radio and had a meet-and-greet with five lucky fans, who took part in the Eurovision.tv competition. One of the fans celebrated her 16th birthday today, and received congratulations from the Russian superstar. Two invited fans who arrived late due to a traffic jam, but Dima decided to return to the meet-and-greet to welcome them personally. Both also travelled to Belgrade to support their idol, but did not have the chance to speak with him in person. Dima´s number one fans in Ireland didn´t go home with empty hands – they all received signed photo cards, promotion material and a Eurovision Song Contest t-shirt.

Tonight, Dima will appear on the season’s last episode of the longest running talk show in the world, The Late Late Show. The live show is hosted by no one but Pat Kenny, who hosted the 1988 Eurovision Song Contest with Michelle Rocca.
